THE JOURNAL / PRIVACY

Your privacy,
plain & simple.

What this static journal stores, what it does not collect, and what happens when you contact the editorial desk.

A small, static journal

This policy describes Twirl & Thistle, an independent culinary editorial project based in Portland, Maine, United States. For privacy questions, contact twirlandthistle.notes@gmail.com.

The site has no account system, checkout, submission forms, analytics scripts, advertising tags, tracking pixels, or embedded third-party content. Its artwork, styles, and scripts are served as local files.

Your browser, your choice

The notice on this site offers two choices. “Remember my choice” stores a single preference value in localStorage on this browser and site origin so the notice can stay dismissed. It is not sent to us by the site code. “Close without saving” removes the notice for the current page view without writing a preference.

Local storage does not automatically expire. You can remove it through your browser’s site-data settings. After removal, the notice can reappear. If storage is blocked, the site remains usable and the notice can still be closed. The flavor and texture widgets keep selections only in the current page’s memory; reloading resets them.

This website’s code does not set cookies. We do not use consent as permission to enable advertising or analytics.

If you send us an email

An email may include your address, name, message, attachments, and mail-routing information. We use messages to respond to questions, consider editorial ideas, address corrections, or handle rights requests. We do not add correspondents to a marketing list or sell their details.

Email is handled by the email provider, and sending a message uses your own email application. Please do not send payment information, passwords, medical records, or other sensitive data. We aim to review correspondence at least annually and delete material no longer needed, while keeping necessary editorial, legal, or dispute records.

Hosting and service records

Serving a website can involve ordinary hosting records, such as an IP address, requested file, browser information, and request time. Hosting infrastructure may process these records for delivery and security. This static site does not read server logs or specify the host’s retention period; deployment settings are outside the page code.

We do not intentionally profile readers, combine browsing behavior across sites, or conduct automated decisions about individuals.

Requests and reader choices

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection regarding personal information we hold. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it. Send a request to twirlandthistle.notes@gmail.com; we may need proportionate information to confirm it concerns you.

You can also contact your local data-protection authority. We do not promise rights beyond those provided by applicable law, and this policy is not a certification of regulatory compliance.

The journal is written for a general audience and is not designed to collect information from children. If you believe a child has sent personal information, ask the desk to review and remove it.

Changes to this policy

If the journal’s practices change, this page and its revision date should change too. A new feature that collects data should be explained before it is introduced. Please check this page for the current description.

Thank you for reading thoughtfully.
